Infinity sounds like a really big number, and it is. But it also is not a discrete or specific number like the number 42 or the number 1999. The word infinity represents something special. 4 = 4. 1999 = 1999. But Infinity does not equal Infinity. Here is a simple proof.
Question: How many numbers exist between 1 and 2?
Answer: Infinity. Examples of numbers between 1 and 2 are 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.31, 1.311, 1.3111, and so on. The number of numbers between 1 and 2 is Infinity.
Question: How many numbers exist between 0 and 10?
Answer: Infinity. Examples of numbers between 0 and 10 are 1, 2, 2.1, 2.2, 2.21, and so on.
But the two infinities in the examples above are not equal. In fact, the second infinity is ten times larger than the first infinity. The number of numbers between 0 and 10 is ten times more than the number of numbers between 1 and 2. If we assign the value infinity1 to the number of numbers between 1 and 2, and the value infinity2 to the number of numbers between 0 and 10, then the following statement is true:
infinity2 = infinity1 * 10
