People Aren't Going Back To Work Because They Are Making Money in the Stock Market, Not Because of Extra Unemployment

It appears that a lot of people have not returned to the work force.  We don't exactly know why, but some Republicans blame the extra unemployment benefits.  That could be a contributor, but of course Republicans always oppose programs that assist the poor.  I would like to put forth a new hypothesis.

People Aren't Going Back To Work Because They Are Making Money in the Stock Market

This definitely the case for some people.  We all heard about the RobinHooders in 2020 making money on the stock market, and a lot of those people used their unemployment benefits and stimulus checks to invest in stocks.  Perhaps now they have decided they can make enough money in the stock market that they don't need to go to work.

Consider all the benefits.  Instead of working 40 hours a week, and paying taxes reducing their $30,000 a year income to $24,000; they get to stay at home and spend about 10 hours a week investing; they don't have to pay for child care saving them $20,000 a year.  If they can make just $4,000 a year investing they break even!

So cheers to all the people that have figured out how to make money in the stock market instead of working jobs.  Perhaps everyone will figure out they can make money that way and no one will work.  Surely Republicans will love that.  After all, it is those making money in the stock market that create jobs according to Republican dogma.
